Prestigious Green Roof Award for VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre

During the International Green Roof Conference in Hamburg, Germany the green roof at the Vandusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre was awarded the IGRA Green Roof Leadership Award 2013. The IGRA Green Roof Leadership Award stands as recognition and appreciation for outstanding examples of Green Roof architecture and Green Roof initiatives all around the world, and SD is honored to awarded this prestigious title.

The 16,000 square foot, extensive green roof at VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre seamlessly blends building to site. The landmark roof with six individual undulating roof petals; two blue roofs for water collection and solar hot water tubes and four petals are planted living roofs with slopes ranging from 5% to near vertical grades. The roof and entire site plantings were designed without the use of an irrigation system. This site is targeting Living Building Challenge 2.1 and Leed-NCĀ® Platinum Status.
