#2 Road Pump Station

Richmond, BC

The City of Richmond’s No. 2 Road North Drainage Pump Station is a focal point on the City’s dike system, creating a landmark on the Fraser River and serving as a post-disaster facility for the City’s flood protection needs. The ‘plane-like’ architectural form takes inspiration from the nearby Vancouver International Airport.

Mass plantings in the form of drought-tolerant shoreline grasses contribute towards a resilient landscape approach. In response to anticipated sea-level rise, the dike crest was elevated by over a meter (to 4.2m), requiring a creative response in the form of site grading to allow for universal access and recreation along the dike trail.
